In BC221,Emperor Qinshihuang unified China,taking Meili as Wuxi county which belonged to Kuaiji county. In the Western Han Dynasty, Wuxi became fief of Han Xin, the King of Chu, Liu Jia, the King of Jin and Liubi, the King of Wu. In the period of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, it was the principality of the Wuxi Marquess of Duo Jun.During the Three Kingdoms time , the Wu country took the west to Wuxi county as field belong to the army and administrator called was assigned in Piling,. In the second year (281)of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty, it was renamed Wuxi county which belonged to Piling( known as Changzhou today).In the Yuan Dynasty, Wuxi county was graded to prefecture which belonged to Changzhou of Jiangsu-Zhejiang Province. Since the Han Dynasty, social economy of Wuxi had been improved consistently. Handicraft industries developed gradually, including iron-smelting, copper-casting, pottery-making and painting; meanwhile, iron farm impliment and cattle farming technology began to be applied to agriculture. In the Han,Wei , Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties, the settling in of immigrants from the north and south energized the development of Wuxi. After making great effort on water and land conservancy, by the Tang and Song Dynasties, the intensive farming system on agriculture formed gradually in Wuxi. After the Grand Canal was dredged, the water transportation was busy and business was prosperous, Wuxi had develpoped into a treaasure land in rich Jiangnan and was considered as “A Bright Pearl Near Taihu Lake”
